Models & Pricing

Filmback runs frontier models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and xAI alongside best-in-class render providers for video, voice, and music. Every plan includes monthly usage on two meters, and everything is denominated in dollars — never credits.

Usage meters

There are two separate meters, each resetting on your monthly billing anniversary:

  • Director — Filmback's in-house model, with significantly more included usage. On the free Hobby plan, the agent runs on Director alone.
  • Other Models — everything else: frontier models you pick in the composer, and the render providers behind video, voice, and music generation.

Both meters display as percent used in the app. If Director usage runs past its meter, it draws from Other Models before anything bills on-demand.

Director

Director 1 is Filmback's in-house model for the work this platform is made of: screenwriting, story surgery, shot breakdowns, and the production judgment of what will actually generate well. Prices are per million tokens:

ModelProviderContextInputOutput
Director 1Filmback1M$0.20$1.20

Other Models — agent

When you pick a specific frontier model in the composer, usage draws from the Other Models meter at that model's rate. Prices are per million tokens:

ModelProviderContextInputOutput
GPT-5.6 SolOpenAI400K$7.14$42.86
GPT-5.6 TerraOpenAI400K$2.86$17.14
GPT-5.6 LunaOpenAI1M$0.29$1.71
Fable 5Anthropic1M$14.29$71.43
Opus 5Anthropic500K$7.14$35.71
Sonnet 5Anthropic500K$2.86$14.29
Grok 4.6xAI500K$2.86$8.57

Auto picks the model for each request. Usage lands on the meter of whichever model it selects, at that model's rate.

Other Models — rendering

Renders draw from the same Other Models meter. Prices are per unit of generated output:

ModelCapabilityPrice
Seedance 2.5Video$0.32 / second
MiniMax H3Video$0.07 / second
Nano Banana 2Image$0.17 / image
ElevenLabs Voice DesignVoice$0.14 / 1K characters
Qwen3 TTS Voice DesignVoice$0.13 / 1K characters
ElevenLabs TTSVoice$0.14 / 1K characters
Stable Audio 3Music$0.05 / track

Two things keep render spend sane. Batch renders show a cost dry-run before anything hits a provider — this change dirties N shots, rebuilding costs ~$X, proceed? — while small spend (chat turns, single-shot rolls, character sheets) simply meters as it goes. And approved takes are pinned: rebuilds regenerate only dirty nodes, so changing one dialogue line re-renders one shot, not the episode. Trailers and cutdowns assembled from pinned assets are nearly free.

Prices are monthly; annual billing is 20% off. On Hobby the agent runs on Director alone, while rendering, character sheets, and voices draw from a small Other Models allowance. Since models have different rates, what you pick affects how quickly included usage is consumed. See Pricing for full plan details, and Enterprise for SSO, audit, mirror-out, and bring-your-own-keys.

What happens when I reach my limit?

When you exceed your included monthly usage, you can either:

  • Continue on-demand — usage carries on at the same rates, billed as it accrues in $100 increments. Nothing is downgraded in quality or speed.
  • Upgrade your plan — move to a higher tier for more included usage.

On-demand is off by default. You set your own monthly limit — a fixed dollar amount, unlimited, or disabled — and hitting it stops spend until you raise it. On team plans the limit is org-level and admin-set. As a hard platform safeguard, no account spends more than $2,000 per day, regardless of settings.

FAQ

Is there a credit system?

No. The meter is dollars. Cost dry-runs, the usage meters, and on-demand bills all use the same currency, so an estimate you approve is the number you're billed.

Do viewers consume usage or need a seat?

No. Viewers are free forever and review links never hit a paywall. Seats are for people who edit or spend.

Why did my episode cost cents to update?

The pin store. Approved assets are pinned against input hashes in a committed lock file; a rebuild only regenerates what your change actually touched. Your dashboard shows what incremental builds saved you each month.
